Soul•Fête: A Culinary Immersion
Soul-Fête, Commemorating a Century of Black History Through Food, Music, and Culture
To mark the centenary celebration of Black History/Excellence Month, Stand Together Against Racism (S.T.A.R.) proudly announces its annual Soul-Fête: A Culinary Immersion — an evening dedicated to celebrating the artistry, resilience, and influence of Black culture through cuisine and music.
This year’s Soul-Fête, now in its fourth year, invites guests to journey through the evolution of Black foodways, from African roots to contemporary American innovation, through an unforgettable dining and cultural experience.
Headlining the evening is Executive Chef Eric Bryson, acclaimed owner of Miss Thelma’s, who will craft a soulful, forward-thinking menu that pays homage to ancestral culinary traditions while reimagining them for the modern table.
Adding to the evening’s rhythm and energy, The Misfits, a local favorite band known for their vibrant performances, will deliver live music that mirrors the event’s fusion of heritage and creativity. Attendees will also enjoy a bourbon tasting by Nineteen70Something, and a silent auction supporting STAR’s mission.
“Soul-Fête is more than a dinner—it’s a powerful conversation between culture, history, and flavor,” said Fatou Niang, Founder and CEO of S.T.A.R. “This is a moment to honor the creativity and innovation of Black chefs and artists who have shaped American culture and continue to inspire future generations. Proceeds from this year’s Soul- Fête will sustain S.T.A.R.’s community programs and policy initiatives that amplify underrepresented voices and foster lasting change.”

Black Excellence Month: Feed Your Soul

We’re thrilled to collaborate with NewCanaanite.com on what we are rebranding as “Black Excellence Month: Feed Your Soul" all Black History Month long. We kicked off the month with our Founder and President Fatou Niang's interview with NewCanaanite.com, which you can read here.
In our second week of Black Excellence Month: Feed Your Soul with NewCanaanite.com, we're sharing Ms. Georgia Gilmore's story. Ms. Gilmore fed and funded the 381-day Montgomery Bus Boycott, and that's not all she did for the Civil Rights Movement in her 70 years. In our third week, we're sharing local artist, poet, educator, and President of diverse LGBTQIA+ and women led grassroots org R.A.G.E.T.I.M.E. Kyla Johns, who is a New Canaan Country School alum as well as a graduate of Darien High School.
